PROVISIO GmbH (which means "For Visions") was established in 1996 and received its first major order from electronic giant MEDIA MARKT in early 1997. PROVISIO chose Internet Explorer version 3 (the current version at the time) as the basis for a multi-media application which marketed MEDIA MARKT’s hardware components. Customers used this application on display terminals to learn more about the technical specifications of the computers offered. MEDIA MARKT’s competitor, SATURN, launched a similar project later.
However, in addition to being capable of running the multi-media application, the computers on display all had to be protected against manipulation by customers. To add this capacity, PROVISIO developed the first version of its kiosk software.
Based on this prototype, PROVISIO shortly thereafter started to develop SiteKiosk, which was first offered as a product in 1998.
Due to the positive national and international reception of the application, PROVISIO decided in mid-1999 to continue developing SiteKiosk with the help of a steady staff of developers. At the same time, PROVISIO ceased to pursue all other business efforts such as developing websites and multi-media applications.
To expand its operations into the North American market, PROVISIO established a legally independent branch in the United States, PROVISIO, LLC in Miami, Florida, in July of 2002.
Thanks to installed copies in excess of 250,000, SiteKiosk has become one of the most commonly used "Public Access Terminal Software" products in the world. At present, PROVISIO employs a staff of 25, working in Germany and the United States. Be sure to visit our list of
